- His farming life past present and future
Who are we ?
Steeple Bumpstead is situated in the north west corner of Essex and our society draws members from Essex, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire.
We were established in 1929.This was a period of depression when rural life was very different to that of today. There were many such societies formed at this time as farmers looked to new technology to help them survive the depression.
We have seen incredible changes on our farms since 1929, many of which can be followed by reading our minute books. We have seen a change from the horse to the ever more powerful tractor, from threshing machines and steam engines to combine harvesters with 'global positioning' and computers in the farm office.
We meet once a month during the winter months (generally on the first Monday of the month) in the lecture hall at the rear of the chapel in Steeple Bumpstead. Our meetings start at 7-30 pm and we welcome guests who come with a genuine interest in our industry.
